One of the all-time great romances

It’s one of the all-time great romances
The woman with the young girl’s eyes
Hiding the pain of a thousand lifetimes
And the man with a life lived in fantasy and dreams
She could lead him around by the nose if she chose
He’d follow her anywhere
But she’s far too kind for that

He’d do anything she asked
But all she asks is that he love her
And, oh, does he love her
He would give her anything she needs
But all she needs is his voice and his words and the light he shines
The light he’d hidden, but that blazes forth now like fireworks on the 4th of July

Fireworks ignited by their kiss
     brighter than the sun
          louder than thunder
more colorful than Jackson Pollock’s wildest dream

And what is it that he needs, this man who’s lived inside his own head all these years?
Love, certainly, is the thing he needs
And she gives it freely
But there is another thing which he wants
Life is what he wants, what he asks of her
And life is what she gives
The spark and the breath and the heat of life
Igniting and invigorating
Resurrecting him on an Easter morning
And again each time they meet
