A voice in a dream

A voice in a dream
Not so different from
The one I hear awake
Sometimes louder than other times
Never silent
 
In the dream,
its drone goes mostly unnoticed,
unheeded
Until joined by another
And together
In whispered harmony
They say a name
 
Waking for a moment I think,
“Two voices together
this must be worth remembering”
Then I fall away
back beneath the cloud of sleep
 
Later, in sunlight, of course
The name is gone

Saints on Chains

I have never seen a saint, I can’t wear a chain                                   
the gold irritates my skin                                                                         
but there’s those that swear by their saint on a chain                     
to protect them from dev’lish sin                                                          

Yet they know, they must, that there is no devil                               
all of their sins are all their own                                                            
the only things grown in the soil of your soul                                    
are grown from the seeds you have sown
